Job Description

Wirepas is hiring a Application Engineer to be our daily on-site technical presence at meter manufacturer partners in Delhi NCR. You will spend around 90% of your working time at customer offices, rotating between OEMs according to project priorities.

You will be the local relay between the customer’s engineering teams and Wirepas technical owners in hardware, firmware, testing and R&D. Your role is to keep daily execution moving: follow up commitments, remove blockers, involve the right experts and help milestones happen on time.

Working closely with the Customer Project Manager (CPM), you will act as the CPM’s on-site delivery engineer. While the CPM owns scope, timeline and commercials, you own daily technical execution at the OEM site and report clearly on progress, risks and customer feedback.

About you

You are a customer-facing engineer who enjoys being close to the field, working independently at customer sites with remote support from senior engineers. You combine technical curiosity with strong communication, discipline and a practical drive to move projects forward.

You are a HW/SW/system generalist: able to read a schematic at block level, recognize key NIC components, set up a bench, use basic lab tools, flash firmware, run test scripts, read logs and document reproducible issues. You do not need to be the deepest expert, but you know how to be useful on-site and when to involve the right Wirepas specialist.

You build trusted relationships with local customers and remote colleagues, mainly abroad. You are organized, comfortable managing several OEMs in parallel, disciplined with trackers and checklists, and able to write clear, factual status updates.

This fully field-based role requires regular travel to meter manufacturer sites across India, especially in Delhi NCR, with occasional international travel for onboarding or partner events.

As an Application Engineer, your responsibilities include:

• Be Wirepas’ daily face at the OEM. Work on-site with OEM engineering, lab and production teams, building trusted relationships across hardware, firmware, test, quality and production. 
• Execute the CPM’s program on-site. Turn the program plan into daily action, follow up commitments, close checklist items and prevent issues from falling through the cracks. 
• Relay technical issues to the right Wirepas owner. Connect customer engineers with the right Wirepas expert for hardware, firmware, testing or R&D topics, providing a clear brief each time. 
• Support all project phases. Help OEMs progress through design reviews, sample handover, NIC bring-up, firmware adaptation, integration testing, certification, production JIG bring-up, provisioning and end-of-line testing. 
• Run hands-on work on-site. Set up benches and test rigs, flash NIC firmware, run test scripts, capture logs and traces, document findings, and reproduce issues on real meters for engineering follow-up. 
• Coordinate on-site test campaigns. Run integration and regression tests defined by the Meter Integration & Test Engineer, track results, file defects and follow them to closure with the OEM. 
• Maintain status and trackers. Keep Confluence trackers current, send concise daily or weekly updates to the CPM, and flag risks and blockers early with facts first. 
• Be Wirepas’ eyes and ears at the customer. Capture customer feedback, friction points and improvement ideas, and feed them back to engineering and product teams. 

For this role we are hoping from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communication, Electronics, Telecommunication, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline. 
• 4-7 years of professional engineering experience, with meaningful time in customer-facing roles (Field Application Engineer, Customer Engineer, Application Engineer, Project Execution Engineer, System Engineer, or similar) at an IoT, embedded, semiconductor, telecom equipment or smart meter company. 
• Generalist HW / SW / system literacy. Comfortable reading a schematic at block level, recognizing the main components on a wireless NIC, setting up a bench, and using basic lab tools (USB-serial, logic analyzer, basic scope). Comfortable flashing a board, running a Python or shell test script, reading serial logs and writing a clean reproduction recipe. You don’t have to be deep in any of these – you have to be useful and self-sufficient in all of them. 
• Strong customer-facing skills. Comfortable working full-time at a customer’s premises, holding daily standups and weekly reviews with their engineering management, and representing Wirepas credibly. 
• Disciplined project execution: you live in checklists, trackers and action lists. You write clean, factual status updates that a Project Manager or VP can read in two minutes. 
• Willingness to be on the road. This is a 90% field-based role. You are happy to spend your working week at OEMs across Delhi NCR as your home base. 
• Strong problem-solving skills, highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, with a Can-Do attitude and the drive to proactively improve our customer experience. 
• Ability to communicate fluently in Hindi and English as it’s the company language.  

In addition, it would be great if you have:

• Exposure to the AMI / smart metering domain – meters, DLMS, IS 15959 Part 2, SBD, MTCTE / BIS certification, AMISP deployments. 
• Hands-on experience with wireless / IoT products – sub-GHz, mesh (Wirepas, Wi-SUN, Zigbee, Thread), cellular / NB-IoT modems – at OEM or system-integrator level. 
• Prior experience as a Field Application Engineer at a semiconductor, RF module or IoT product company in India. 
• Prior experience as a project execution engineer or customer engineer at a meter OEM or AMISP. 
• Familiarity with Indian regulatory and certification flows for connected devices (MTCTE, BIS). 
• Basic Python scripting for on-site test execution and quick automation.
