The China Office Analyst Trainee Programme is open to students and recent graduates with a relevant academic background in China/Asian Studies, International Relations, Political Science, International Business, or other related fields. Preference is given to students who have shown a commitment to a China-focussed career by, for example, pursuing Chinese language studies or or exchange studies in the region.

The goal of the programme is to provide aspiring China specialists in Finland with hands-on experience in writing analysis, choosing topics for business executives, and identifying sources (in English and Chinese). Analyst Trainees are welcome to special briefings and roundtables with leading international guest speakers, and to most internal team meetings. Trainees also assist with administrative tasks including event organisation and planning, website management, and research support.

However, the traineeship’s focus is on learning how to do research and write concise, coherent analysis.

With its goal of nurturing the next generation of China analysts in Finland, this traineeship has evolved into an important part of the China Office’s work, and also aims to provide a public service by helping grow China-related expertise in Finland.

During the five-month employment period, trainees will have the opportunity to conduct a small research project on  topic of interest to Shareholders; these may also be circulated to readers at our shareholder companies.

Analyst Trainees are recruited twice a year, in the autumn and spring. Two trainees per season are offered 5-month, part-time contracts, and start work in January and August.

The Trainee programme includes informal get-togethers to discuss developments in the PRC. These are hosted by the Chief Analyst twice annually and all China Office trainees, past and present, are invited.
